Horse-Oracle video analysis: replay observations, official-record checks, transcripts, and explicit limits.

The replay

Start with the footage

Every analysis begins with a replay anyone can open. This one is here so you can see what we work from. We haven't published an analysis of this race.

Where we look

A race is watched in order, from the gate to the wire. At each point we ask what the replay shows, then check what the official chart recorded.

  1. The break

    On the replay
Did it leave cleanly, or stumble, get squeezed or bump?
    In the chart
Post position, the order just after the start, and any trip note.
  2. Early

    On the replay
Where it settled, and how far off the rail it ran.
    In the chart
Running order and lengths at the first calls.
  3. The far turn

    On the replay
Who moved, who went wide, who got stuck.
    In the chart
Running order at the next call.
  4. The stretch

    On the replay
A clear run, or blocked, drifting or in contact.
    In the chart
The stretch call, and any inquiry or disqualification.
  5. The wire

    On the replay
The margin at the line, and any photo finish.
    In the chart
Official order, margins and final time.

Chart callers record positions reliably for about the first four horses. Further back, we say less, not more.

Every line is tagged

You can always tell what we saw, what the record confirms, and what we're reading into it. Each analysis also states the replay's link, the date we watched it, and whether it was written before or after the race.

  • Video-observed

    Seen on the replay

Only what the footage visibly shows, with the time in the clip so you can check it yourself.

  • Verified

    Confirmed by the chart

Positions, margins, final time and the official trip note, with the chart named.

  • Inferred

    Our reading

A conclusion drawn from the two, always shown with what it rests on.

  • Unknown

    Left unknown

A horse's health, what a rider or trainer intended, and what happens next time. A replay can't show these, so we don't guess.
